Many of the coaches are a product of the academy or are ex-players, they are therefore the best to teach and coach the next generation on the skills required to be a Weston player or coach.

Coaches.

  • Matt Bazell

    FOUNDATION PHASE LEAD & COACH

    Qualification: UEFA B

    Matt Bazell began his football career playing for FC Gurtesloh in Germany when he was 13 years old due to his father being in the Royal Air Force. He embraced the way that he was taught and coached.

  • Craig Graham

    DEVELOPMENT PHASE LEAD & UNDER 16S COACH

    Qualification: UEFA B

    As a player at youth level, Craig played for Westland Pumas which was based where the Optima Stadium is now located, moving into senior phase he played for Weston St John before a serious knee injury stopped him playing for 6 years.

  • Mark McKeever

    SENIOR PHASE LEAD & UNDER 19S COACH

    Qualification: UEFA A Licence

    Derry born youngster Mark McKeever began his career at Norwich City before leaving to join Peterborough United.

  • Ryan Elden

    UNDER 9S COACH

    Qualification: FA Level 1

    I started playing football in primary school and am still loving the game today. I am part of the Weston College and Weston-super-Mare AFC programme. Since joining Weston at the age of 13, I have attained my level one in coaching and am looking to progress further.

  • Richard Jones

    UNDER 10S COACH

    Qualification: FA Level 1

    Rich began at the club as a child helping his grandparents run the tea room at the old Woodspring Stadium on matchdays. He started coaching in grassroots football before joining the academy team to further develop his experience.

  • Georgia Ferdinando

    U11S COACH

    Qualifications: UEFA B

    Georgia started playing football at 8 years old and has represented the Ladies side since the age of 16.

  • Ethan Reed

    UNDER 12S COACH

    Qualification: FA Level 1

    Ethan started playing football since he can remember, it was the classic could kick a ball before I could walk.

  • Nick Osbourne

    UNDER 13S COACH

    Qualification: FA Level 2

    At 8 years old Nick joined Burnham school of excellence where he stayed until 16 years old and became the longest serving member.

  • Lewis Mclean

    UNDER 13S COACH

    Qualification: UEFA B

    Lewis McLean joined Weston-super-Mare AFC from the age of 11 playing in the academy, after years of attending the fun days hosted by the club. Having grown up in Weston, playing for Weston-super-Mare was a dream.

  • Dan Hartley

    UNDER 14S COACH

    Qualifications: FA Level 2

  • James Hodgkinson

    UNDER 14’S COACH

  • Mark Jenkins

    UNDER 15S COACH

    Qualification: UEFA B

    Mark grew up playing in Oxfordshire, making his debut for Hellenic league outfit Ardley United at 15 before moving to university and playing for Hartpury College as well as local clubs within Gloucester. Moved down to Weston-super-Mare and played two seasons at Worle FC before finally retiring.

  • Louis Dean

    UNDER 18’S COACH

    Qualification: UEFA B

    Louis has always played and enjoyed football, playing local youth football before playing senior football for Burnham on sea in the Somerset Premier division.

  • Steve Laker

    HEAD OF GOALKEEPING

    Qualification: UEFA B outfield and UEFA B Goalkeeping

    Steve Laker began his playing career at a grass roots team for most of his youth whilst attending the local Plymouth Argyle Academy for 4 years.

  • Spencer Sowden

    GOALKEEPER COACH

    Qualifications: FA Level 1 & FA Level 1 goalkeeping

  • Alex Matter

    GOALKEEPER COACH

    Qualifications: FA Level 2 and FA Level 1 GK

    Alex has accrued 10+ years of coaching experience, working with boys and girls of all ages, both individually and as a team coach

    Alex represented Somerset at schoolboy level, reaching the national cup semi-final, as well as playing for Weston at U18s and U19s. He then moved to Southampton where he achieved a degree in sports coaching and development.
